Haha nice.
Is that your site then? I noticed the dice on your notebook the last time we met.
That’s REALLY nice Ryan. I am wondering if there are issues with heat though? Could it possibly catch fire eventually or am I being paranoid?
Also, what did you cut out the pages with? Just a sharp knife or something more high tech?
I don’t think heat should be an issue, the drive isn’t used for much more than transferring data and heats up to about 40°C at most but it could possibly go higher… I’ll be keeping an eye on it.
I just cut the pages with a scalpel blade, but something a bit larger like a stanley knife blade may be better. It took a lot longer than expected with the scalpel, about 2 hours.
SO cool, really really like that - though I have to admit that overheating was the first thing that came to my mind too. Will be interested to hear how it performs over time :)
I love this! First thing I thought was “what about heat though?!” too… I guess we’ll find out if it really is the big issue we all think it is!
I have a super tiny USB drive that I’ve been trying to think of something similar (only MUCH smaller) to do with it… any ideas?
Oh also, while I was looking for this post, I found another VERY similar from 2007: http://www.zonageek.com/2007/4/23/the-geekster-moleskine
Interesting similarities and differences in approach :)
Yeah after thinking of doing this originally I ran a search online only to find it had been done previously, there are at least two other projects like this :)
Not sure about the USB drive, I’ll have a think and message you on twitter.

Very nice-looking result. If it does start to get too hot, just open the cover for instant air-cooling :)

Nice work - prepare for moleskine protection league onslaught though - I got my fair share of hate mail from them after this post made it onto the boingboing front page http://www.inventoids.com/2007/moleskine-indexing-hack-tool/
